Take the Journey!

Hi! My name is Blaise and I'm inviting you to come on a journey with us!

Jerusalem map background.jpg

This is a special kind of a journey. My twin sister, Helen, and I will be visiting some of the Mysteries of Jesus by way of Mary's Immaculate and Sorrowful Heart! Did you know that St. Luke actually talks about this in his Gospel? In Luke's Gospel it says, "Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart." "All these things" are the Mysteries of Jesus!

"Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart."
Luke 2:19

We can think of it this way: Mary’s heart will be the guide for our journey!

I have a question for you. Have you ever gone on a big trip? I have! Two summers ago my family drove from our home in Washington state all the way across the country to Washington, DC. We were gone for three whole weeks. There was so much to see and learn!

Sometimes there were opportunities to visit the local stores. Often I'd see something really amazing that I wanted to buy but it was usually too expensive. That's when I wished I had a bag full of money so I could buy everything I wanted! I'd keep some of the things for myself and the other things I'd give to my friends and to my grandma and grandpa and family.

That's kind of how it's going to be when we take our journey right now! I'll try and explain it to you the way that my dad and mom explained it to me. You see, Jesus has purchased an infinite or never ending amount of treasures for us when He suffered and died on the Cross to take away our sins. Every single thing that Jesus ever did has infinite worth and value! Jesus, in His great love for us, decided that He was going to put Mother Mary in charge of distributing these treasures to us. Mary’s title of doing this is "Mediatrix of All Graces.”
Mary225.jpg
Imagine Mother Mary saying to you, “Here, my child, I will open the storehouse of infinite treasures my Son has obtained for us. You can come and ask me for these treasures. You don’t need any money. Jesus has already paid for everything. Isn’t He wonderful? These treasures will help you reach the goal in your journey through life which is to be a Saint! You can ask for yourself, for your family, for your friends and even for the entire world! These treasures are available for anyone who asks.”

Do you remember when our CK101 friend Kathryn told us about how she loves praying the Rosary because she loves to think about the different Mysteries? The Mysteries are the events that tell us the story of Jesus. Kat gave us really great meditations for the Joyful Mysteries. We can also pray the Luminous Mysteries, the Sorrowful Mysteries and the Glorious Mysteries. Here is the amazing thing I want you to understand. When we think about these Mysteries and then offer them to God our Father when we pray, it's just like we went into a store and Mary put the most perfect, priceless treasures into our hands!

Jesus is the precious "Pearl of Great Price"

Our Heavenly Father sees these treasures that we are offering to Him and His Heart is completely moved with love! How can He not be moved when we are offering Him Jesus in Mary's womb at the Incarnation or Jesus in the manger at Bethlehem or Jesus in the Jordan River being baptized by John the Baptist or Jesus giving Himself at the Last Supper in the Most Holy Eucharist or Jesus dying for our sins? That is why the Mysteries are so powerful! We are offering our Heavenly Father His beloved Son Jesus! The more we do this, our hearts are moved! We begin to understand how much God loves us!

All the mysteries are important! All of them contain infinite treasures! However, the Sorrowful Mysteries are especially important for us to think about and offer in prayer on a regular basis. When we think about the sorrowful times in the lives of Jesus and Mary often, something kind of amazing happens. It’s like a ray of light coming into the darkness. We start to see things in our own lives differently. We begin to understand that hard times can have meaning. It helps us to be able to accept the hard times in our lives because we begin to understand it is the only way of becoming more and more like Jesus. But don't worry! We never have to be afraid during the hard times because Jesus and Mary are always with us!

Now I want to tell you about the journey we are going to take! On our journey there will be songs to listen to and interesting and important things to see, think and pray about. We are going to make 7 stops on our journey. These 7 stops are called The Seven Sorrows of Mary.

I think we are almost ready to begin. Go ahead and pray one Hail Mary and then let's go!

Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, “This child is destined to be the downfall and the rise of many in Israel, a sign that will be opposed – and you yourself shall be pierced with a sword – so that the thoughts of many hearts may be laid bare."

When the First Sorrow is done, I will listen to the song that goes with it.

As I listen, I pray that I will grow in my love for Jesus and Mary!

The angel of the Lord suddenly appeared in a dream to Joseph with the command: “Get up, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you otherwise. Herod is searching for the child to destroy him.” Joseph got up and took the child and his mother and left that night for Egypt.

When the Second Sorrow is done, I will listen to the song that goes with it.

As I listen, this will be my prayer:

Dear Jesus,

how wonderful it was for you to have Saint Joseph there to protect

You and take care of You when you were a boy!

I pray for my dad and I ask Saint Joseph to protect and guide him

in a special way too. I pray for all the fathers in the world to be good and holy.

At the end of the feast, the child Jesus remained behind unknown to his parents. Thinking he was in the party, they continued their journey for a day, looking for him among their relatives and acquaintances. Not finding him, they returned to Jerusalem in search of him.

When the Third Sorrow is done, I will listen to the song that goes with it.

As I listen, this will be my prayer:

Dear Jesus,

I pray that everyone will love You and show You respect in every tabernacle in every Catholic Church in the whole world.

As they led him away, they laid hold of one Simon the Cyrenean who was coming in from the fields. They put a cross beam on Simon's shoulders for him to carry along behind Jesus. A great crowd of people followed him, including women who beat their breasts and lamented over him.

When the Fourth Sorrow is done, I will listen to the song that goes with it.

As I listen, this will be my prayer:

Dear Jesus,

I pray for all people in the world who are suffering and hurting

so they will never lose hope.

Let their prayer be the same prayer as mine:

Jesus, I trust in You!

A reading from the Gospel according to Saint John

Near the cross of Jesus there stood his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary  Magdalene. Seeing his mother there with the disciple whom he loved, Jesus said to his mother,“Woman, there is your son.” In turn he said to the disciple,“There is your mother.”

When the Fifth Sorrow is done, I will listen to the song that goes with it.

As I listen, this will be my prayer:

Dear Jesus,

I pray for all the people in the world who do not know You,

that they will come to know You.

I pray for all the people in the world who do not love You,

that they will love You with their whole heart!

A reading from the Gospel according to Saint Mark

As it grew dark (it was Preparation Day, that is, the eve of the Sabbath), Joseph from Arimathea arrived – a distinguished member of the Sanhedrin. He was bold enough to seek an audience with Pilate and urgently requested the body of Jesus. Pilate released the corpse to Joseph. Then, having bought a linen shroud, Joseph took him down.

When the Sixth Sorrow is done, I will listen to the song that goes with it.

As I listen, this will be my prayer:

Dear Jesus,

I pray now for my mom. Please help her everyday to be holy.

Help her to be a good wife and mother.

Help all mothers in the world to be good and holy.

And help all mothers say yes to the wonderful gift of life!

burial of Jesus.jpg

A reading from the Gospel according to Saint John

They took Jesus' body, and in accordance with Jewish burial custom, bound it up in wrappings of cloth with perfumed oils. In the place where he had been crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had ever been buried. Because of the Jewish Preparation Day they buried Jesus there, for the tomb was close at hand.

When the Seventh Sorrow is done, I will listen to the song that goes with it.

As I listen, this will be my prayer:

Thank you, Mother Mary, for sharing these treasured moments

of your heart with me! I will try and think about them often.

I will never forget how much you love me!

I will never forget how much Jesus loves me!

I know that you will pray for me until my mission on this earth is done.

I know you will help me to live every day of the week for your Son!
